PROJECT AIM

The artisans involved in the project will produce prototypes following steps of production that are inspired by ancient and traditional techniques from Italy.  Especially technologies shown to have been found locally and to be eco-friendly.

Knife and hair ornaments made by Alessio Pellegrini. The set is inspired by terramare objects from the North East of Italy. Copyright 2020 Alessio Pellegrini .

What we can do.

Here we have a picture of a Medieval cooking pot form Sicily. Through petrographic analysis we could reconstruct its forming technique. The picture taken with a petrographic microscope shows the circular alignment of the rock inclusions (the colourful elements in the brown background) which indicates that the pan was formed with the artisan's hands, using a coiling technique, not on the potter's wheel. This technique can still be employed today in the creation of functional cooking pots.

RecRAAFT is designed by Veronica Testolini, an expert in the reconstruction of ancient technology through scientific analysis and experimentation.
